Chickens of the World
This project is the product of my childhood and high school daydreams — doodling mustaches, monocles, and top hats onto the faces in textbooks; and chickens seem to personify that breed of irreverent creativity.

A-Yokai-A-Day
For the month of October, 2009, I painted a different Japanese yokai every single day, in honor of Halloween. Here they are, in order of the day on which they were painted.

100 Famous Views of Philadelphia
This series is inspired by Japanese woodblock prints. I’ve borrowed elements from a number of famous printers, including Utagawa Hiroshige and Kawase Hasui. The series is named after Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo, and was begun in honor of the 2005 Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia. The first painting is oil, and the rest are done digitally.

Views of Japan
These paintings are inspired by my life in Japan and the sights I’ve seen while living here. Many of the sights are from Fukui prefecture, where I currently live. Most of them are digital ukiyoe, and a few are gouache.
