Blog or Forum?
Now that I have a forum on the site, it brings up an interesting question: where do I post my random thoughts?
The blog, of course, is a journal and so has a better format for the sort of posts that I usually put up here. The forum, however, encourages people to comment and join in on my thoughts, and has a more open environment. On the other hand, more people will see and read the blog since you have to register to use the forums. But still, my closest friends with whom I communicate more often will likely use the forums instead of the blog.
I think what it will come down to is this: I’ll continue to post good jokes and email humor I find on the blog, and occasionally include those in the forum if they’re worth discussion. Random musings will probably be more often posted on the forum, so people can join in and discuss. I’ll try use the forum for informal things, while I’ll try to keep the blog a bit more professional and on-topic (potential employers are more likely to see the blog, so I don’t want anything that might hurt my job prospects posted up here, like political rants).
Eventually I’ll install a whole new Content Management System like Mambo, and I can have the forum and blog integrated with eachother, as well as a much neater, cleaner organized site. But I don’t have the energy to learn, install, and convert to Mambo, then redesign the site styles to match Mambo’s architecture. For now, I’ll keep the blog like it is, maybe play with the forum’s theme, and once I get some free time (late in the spring, probably) I may install a CMS and revamp my site again.
So if you like my random thoughts, please join the forum. It’s a great place to find things to talk about when you’re bored online. If you just want to read about my art and the more important things going on in my life, read the blog.
