Children of Eden

The town play auditions were on Monday. We’re doing Children of Eden, which is a really fun show that we did back in high school. It has some great music, and is really fun to do.

The auditions were pretty fun. I saw a lot of people I hadn’t seen since high school, and it looks like a lot of the theater crew from back then is still doing the town theater. I haven’t sang anything at all really since high school, so it was so great to be back with all those people, singing songs again.

Today I found out I got the part I auditioned for, Cain, which is the part I had way back when. Cain has a really fun song to sing, so I’m glad to have the part again. Most of all, though, it will just be fun to be back doing singing and acting again… I missed it so much, so I’m really excited about this show!

Nostalgia

Summer weather is here again, and it’s making me feel so nostalgic… I miss everyone from Ringling, and I miss living in a community with artists. I miss living on a campus where I can go wander around at 2 am, and make middle-of-the-night Wal-Mart runs, stay up playing DDR and watching horror movies until 5 am, play a different card or board game every night, and never have to travel more than 500 feet to find a friend, the mp3′s that I first heard in college, playing solitaire, chatting online, and watching movies on my laptop in my dorm room, the video games that I played then, Anime Club, the thousand-odd new people all around me, talking to them for hours about whatever problems they might have, class critiques, dozens of unfinished paintings lying around on the floor, brainstorming new projects, D&D games that lasted all night, the absolutely crazy discussions we had during D&, how hot the days were and how wonderful the nights were, the disgusting sweaty feeling of walking home as the sun is beginning to rise, visiting library DVD collection every single day… I even miss the colors that my floor lamp made on my walls.

There’s always a little bit of nostalgia for these things, but now that it’s hot and sunny, it’s just reminding me of Florida weather. And I guess since it’s so late right now, I feel like I want to go on a night walk around campus and hear the muffled music coming from dorm rooms mixed with the buzzing of cicadas.

Nostalgia is such a weird thing… so happy that it can bring you utter peace on one hand, and so depressing on the other. Dou shiyou…
