Spring Is Coming??

Just when we were starting to get extra sunlight from Daylight Savings Time, and temperatures in the 70′s, another ice storm hit… Oy! I fell down on the way to work today and hurt my hand. >_< And I caught a throat cold -- winter's last hoorah I suppose. But I think it's finally warming up for good now, so I'm happy.

What's got me even happier is that I was accepted by AEON to go to Japan! I found out the other week after my interview in NY. (I've been meaning to write here, but I've been so busy, and then weekend Vista totally threw up inside my computer so I had to reformat... too many little things are eating my time.) I'll be living in a small town called Takefu in Fukui prefecture. It's really out in the boondocks of Japan, from the sound of it, which is fantastic! I will be the only foreigner at my school, and probably in my neighborhood... but the nearby small city of Fukui has a lot of foreigners should I ever need to see them (???). What's even cooler is that Takefu is on the same JR line as Kanazawa -- in fact, only 1 hour away from Kanazawa -- so I will be taking the same train line as I did before, and I should be able to visit Kanazawa on weekends even! I'm so glad that I can be in the same region as I was in before. I'll be leaving here in mid-July.

The plays have finished for a while now, and my life has been on a normal schedule for a few weeks now so it really feels like I'm back in the swing of things. I was so frazzled with too many things to do and think about for so long that I completely defragmented. Having a normal life again -- regular conversation practices with Emiko, selling and making artwork, computer working, reading books and watching movies, and having enough free time to accomplish something every now and then -- is a great feeling, and coupled with the good feeling of going to Japan, everything seems fairly rosy now. Of course, with the Cherry Blossom Festival around the corner and Japan just after that, time seems to be moving extra fast now.

I’ll be posting my first new artwork in a long time within the next week or so. It’s my new Cherry Blossom Festival piece, #2 of 100 Famous Views of Philadelphia (long overdue). It’s not so much that I haven’t drawn anything — I’ve been doodling a lot — just nothing complete, and no sketches worth posting. But having time to draw occasionally again just feels great. After the festival is over, I’ll surely have enough free time for a few more pieces before I go to Japan.

Anyway, I don’t have time for more than this brief update. I wish I had time to write more, but I need to sleep… things are very busy at work and I’m exhausted.
