My batteries for my keyboard died halfway through the week, making it really tough for me to type anything but short sentences… it takes about 50 times as long to handwrite on the screen than it does to use a keyboard, especially because handwriting recognition software really, really sucks. It’s strange how a program that is supposed to actively “learn” more about your handwriting style can actually get progressively worse and worse the more you use. The most annoying thing is that recently, it starts off guessing the write word that I wrote, but then shortly after, changes its mind and changes every word in a long string of sentences to something that makes so much sense. For example, I’ll write something like Today I went to the grocery store. and as I write the first 6 words, everything will be perfect. But then, mysteriously, as I cross that t in store, the entire sentence will change to Tuber 1 wart te toy grabeplops slough. What gives???
But yeah… anyway… this week was Counseling Week at school, which meant I had almost no classes except for a few “Power Up” lessons for kids. So I taught 1 or 2 lessons each day, and in the rest of my time I worked on our “Aeon Zoo” — a project that was initially just a few pictures of animals with English labels, but eventually evolved into a 3-posters-wide fully backgrounded and colored collage of dozens of animals. It was loads of fun, since I got to do all the drawing and make the animals look as silly as I wanted. Plus I haven’t done too many really time consuming artworks since I was in Ringling, and it was really nice to do something again.
Speaking of art, even though I know it’s a bit early to be talking about what I’m going to do when I come back to the US, I’ve toying with the idea of returning to art school — somewhere local, as long as I can afford it. It might be fun to get a Master’s, right? Whenever I do come home, I want to get a job that really is art related somehow… either just diving fulltime into freelancing and living off my savings for a few months until I can actually start producing some money on my own (that’s sort of the dream, I guess), or trying to become an art teacher. Just some ideas I’ve been toying with anyway.
Hey, this is cool — last week I started playing D&D online! And tonight will be our 2nd game. That is satisfying an itch that has been left unscratched since leaving America, so I’m glad to be doing it. It’s an inter-hemispherical game, spread across multiple states and countries, with friends from home and from college. My stolen internet isn’t the most reliable, and using a computer without a keyboard or a mouse is a bit tricky for this kind of task, but it works well enough.
My posts have been rather boring lately I think. I always get really funny ideas or at least good ideas to write about when I’m lying in bed or the shower, or somewhere else, and I think them all the way through so that I don’t forget them, but then by the time I’m actually in a position to be able to write them here, I already feel like I’ve written it, so I end up reading Wikipedia instead. >_< Ugh. I’ll try to fix that bad habit.
