Pi Pi Pi!

Everyone keeps asking about Pi-chan, and since I did mention that a few weeks ago I went out and bought him some toys, I wanted to finally upload some really cute photos.

Minako helped me find a store with some bird toys — it was a department store all the way up in Fukui! It’s pretty ridiculous that I had to travel that far (taking 2 trains and about an hour and a half) to get to a store that actually sells bird toys, and even then it was just a small rack like in a regular pet area of a department store. But his cage was so miserable, so I’m glad I got them. Now he has a ladder, a bell/mirror, a chain of hoops, another bells-and-balls thing, some millet, grass for the bottom of his cage (its actually rabbit bedding, but whatever) and a wooden nesting box. He likes his hoop chain and his mirror toy, and recently he really loves chewing on the box! It’s really cute. He’s only gone inside it once, and I got a photo.

New and improved!

So cute!

Well of course I’m taking lots of photos of Pi-chan, since my phone is good at that. Recently he discovered he can see his reflection in the phone, so he’s not really scared of it. Even better, he’s a bit curious about it!

Very cute!

I think he’s a pretty happy bird overall, but sometimes I feel bad for being at work all day. I play with him a little in the mornings, but he really likes to stay in his cage while I’m getting ready for work. And when I come home he’s too tired to come out and play much. At least he doesn’t fight me to go in his cage anymore, like he did before he had toys. He’s started singing recently, too, which makes me really happy. He loves the sound of the shower or the sink when I do dishes. He also sings along to my iPod… but he doesn’t talk. He’s happy to sit on fingers most of the time, but he has no patience for shoulders and quickly goes back to his cage if I try to put him on my shoulder. I occasionally toy with the idea of buying a girlfriend for him, since I don’t want him to be depressed and lonely while I’m at work.

Recently he started molting, and he lost both his tailfeathers, leaving him with a really cute stub of a tail while his new tailfeathers grow. :-D
