Since I moved here last year, I’ve been saving my toilet paper tubes. Sometimes I do silly things like that… I dunno, I expected that since I teach kids, at some point I would need toilet paper tubes. After all, lots of construction crafts call for them, and it’s not like they grow on trees — you can only acquire so many at one time so if there’s a craft emergency, you’ve got to have a stockpile. Fortunately for me, I just happened to be prepared when the craft emergency happened last week.
Last week was Aeon’s summer school program, and I did an Arts & Crafts class. We had to make Olympic torches, and of course the required ingredients were 2(!) toilet paper tubes for each kid. Maybe other teachers would have sweat just a bit when they saw that note in the lesson plan, but not yours truly. I grinned and thought about my stockpile of tubes sitting in my cabinet, next to my plates and glasses, waiting for their time to save the day.
So, to make a long story short, I brought all of my tubes in and had enough for all the kids to make a double-tubed Olympic torch and even had two extra tubes to spare. Actually, that’s what triggered this post; the manager found the tubes today and asked me what they were. So I explained the story to her, and for some reason she just burst into tears and laughed at me for being so obsessive compulsive and well-prepared at the same time.
And to think — Hitomi laughed at me when she saw the huge stockpile of toilet paper tubes in my cabinet. I just saved Summer Vacation, thank you very much!
