Winter Hath Come!

For the past two nights, there have been lightning strikes over my house, periodic downpours, and fog as thick as pea soup… and this morning I woke up to a hours-long hail storm and snow thunder (high up in the sky with a reverb that sounds like it can be heard across the entire planet). The smell in the air has changed as well.
This pleases me.

I meant to tell you, we have snow thunder here as well. It’s very cool. It does seem to reverberate but I think it’s because the falling snow is so silent (compared with rain) that the thunder seems magnified. Also, snow lightning makes the whole area glow for a split second!
The thing I always wonder is, is it safe to shovel snow during snow thunder – I’ve never heard of anyone getting zapped during a snowstorm, but you never know.
I have never even experienced real snow…
Strange, where I live the winters are marked by dry weather, sunny days and crystal clear blue skies where you can see forever if you happen to be on a high spot.
On google earth you can actually see which pictures were taken in winter, the lack of green is marked, with the veld being almost crayon yellow.
Summers are marked by intense heat, humidity and thunderstorms with tons of rain (if it is a wet year.)
Gadda love it.
